I worked on this with my friend Chris who I met on Listia during the first six months of creatures. Chris intorduced me to Kickstarter. We had a google hangout and brainstormed about what todays creature could be. It was nice to have someone to discuss the piece with while working on it. He has asked me before to make a video of my creative process and I offered to let him sit in on this one while I worked. I really have to figure out the camera, but one day I hope to film a creations live birth save the screaming part. click to enlarge Today has been really long and I'd love to tell you all about it, but I'm tired. Got some super scores at the thrift store today, was reminded why I tend to stay indoors and mailed a package. Stuff like that. Hope you enjoy today's art. To win just comment on the blog. Don't forget to ask to be entered into the drawing (it's the only way to win.) And the Drum Roll Please...

I hit the back button accidentally and thought I lost this whole blog. *whips sweat from brow* Thankfully my blog saved it for me. YAY The red saddle area as well as the gold spots are sparkly and the silver is shiny but the card was hard to photograph in a way that showcased them well so the winner will get the joy of knowing the reality of this card. Everyone else will just have to be happy with meeting my strange two legged moose riding a rocking snail toy like creature combo card. ENJOY! Today was nice. We went to Paper Mermaids and enjoyed 50% moving sale. Future projects beware! After that we had dollar drive through burgers and headed home. I caught up on a bit of online stuffies and Ashley skillfully convinced me to take them outside. "You don't have a headache and it's beautiful outside..." Ash took her bike out, training wheels and all. We brought down Kaleb's tricycle that my mom got him. So far he hasn't ridden it outside because his legs were too short to reach the peddles. Today they were just long enough. He had no idea how to steer but he did a great job overall. It was amazingly cute. We went to the park near my house where the kids played outside on the equipement while I watched and drew this fellow save the background and sparkly additions. And the winner is...
I made it to church this morning with the kids, but on the way home I started to develop a migraine. I took some medicine and slept for quite a while. There was a dinner hosted by my apartment complex. I wasn't able to eat much but they sent me home with lots of leftovers. This drawing took a little over an hour to do. It was very hard to see anything in the card, but I could see a lot of almost something so I went with that. I see an evil nightmare clown and the poor fellow dreaming about it. I showed the card to my daughter and asked what she thought. She said it was "lovely" (she is 6.) I asked her if she thought it was scary. She said "Why should I?" And the winner is...I got up and out the door pretty early (for me) this morning. The local scrapbooking store "Paper Mermaids" is moving locations and having a sale. I wanted to get a paper cutter and some new pens before anyone cleared them out. I'll be headed back monday to see what is left for the 50% off portion. I got a special stamp today for landscape oriented cards. It's not quite as fancy as my portrait oriented stamp but it will be nice to keep things in the correct direction. I guess you could say the early bird gets a new black pen :) I think I might have overworked the card a little. There was a place where it was still quite simple that I probably should have stopped at. C'est la vie. And the winner is...When I started to draw this creature it looked cute and soft and fluffy, but since the cards are somehow influenced by my subconscious the fact that I have a head ache took control and directed the narrative. I was really hoping to get some dishes done today. :( No winner yet....
Name: Henrietta Story: She has a little bit of a head injury because she has just escaped Pluckies chicken hatchery. Oh what a difference a good nights rest can make. I think it needs to be done more often. If it only it wasn't so elusive. I got up early and got the card done so I could move on to work on one of the other pledge rewards. I started a painting that was actually 9 x12 expecting to cut it down to 8 x 10. The piece has worked out to where I don't want to cut it. It's taking FOREVER. It needed scales and as much as I didn't want to I really had to. Scales take a very long time. My finger is actually sore from holding the pen. I LOVE IT! Ash says I'm done but I think I should finish the winds at least. I'd love to ignore the other parts of the image. I don't know what to do with them and I don't want to mess up the siamese dragons. What do you think? ~click to enlarge~ And the winner is... NO ONEThis card will be posted to Listia.com (the original site used to distribute creature cards.) This should allow the opportunity to mention the project and hopefully get some more people visiting the blog to win creatures. I got a free premium auction for my birthday with the site so I'll use that.
I started thinking that I wanted to make a zentangle. Wether that became the card or not I didn't really care just wanted to draw with no purpose in mind. I grabbed this card because I figured it was the most abstract and I could just draw on top of it. I had absolutely no intention to create this. Although the initial thoughts were in line with the final narrative which I find interesting. Can you guess what I was thinking about? It happens to be the on the portion that is cut out. If you guess I'll show it to you (Yes. The area on the bottom left is CUT OUT of the card. The winner will receive the cut out with the card even if no one guesses what it is.) On a separate note I was able to get in contact with child support today. There was some kind of accounting error and they will be transferring the missing funds within the next day or so and hopefully it won't happen again! Thank goodness. PLUS If there is a card you didn't get to win, for whatever reason, and you would like to own a copy of the card I can make you a beautiful ATC print on watercolor paper for only $5.00. Just contact me here. And the winner is...After wearing this creature to a job interview and getting the job the winner has decided to name the creature Gluecklich which means lucky in German What a day for accomplishments! I got up at a good hour and started getting rewards finished and ready for mailing. After that Kaleb and I took 21 packages/letters to the post office, got some fries at the drive in, dropped off two local pledges and got some groceries. BAM! Lets see after that um... hmm. I guess the bam through me off. So any who, I have to call child support tomorrow for some reason a couple months ago the government seems to have started taking more than half and I don't know why. At least a little note explaining why your going to take our money. Sigh. Such a good day and then something bad smacks ya around a bit. Life is always a roller coaster. It never stays in one direction completely or it would be a terrible ride (as well as defy the laws of physics in a never ending doom spiral... sorry getting side tracked.) Overall a nicely accomplished day, more up than down :) As for the drawing I started him later in the evening and had a hard time focusing; however, when I picked up the painting I saw this fellow automatically (and liked him enough to draw it.) Sometimes I try to go with something different than my automatic reaction to make it more unusual. I like him so it makes me wonder if you will to...? :) I was thinking magnet too but I think I'm willing to let the winner decide. I can make it into a magnet or a pendant or leave it as is. I will coat it which will dull the white just a little but protects the image. I took some images of yesterday's after coating and will post them on that blog. I also made a frame style pendant for the first time and I'll be putting it up for sale shortly on the Original Art page. The frames are more expensive and I haven't got the coating perfect yet so this one will be a steal. Anyone up for it? And the winner is...~Click to enlarge~I decided to make a little magnet today. This picture shows him before the acrylic coating. I put the glaze on but he is drying currently. Once he dries I will photograph him again and post it for you. I didn't know if it would dry in time to post today. This is the day to find out. I was able to get a lot of printing done today! The non-limited edition prints look really nice. I should be able to get my five dollar pledges out as well this week! WOOT :) After inspecting the magnet there may be a bit of color change from the glaze. Hopefully not, but I'll photograph the finished product when I do tomorrows card. And the winner is...Today I decided that I wanted to have some smoothness to the card. I often outline the natural edges created by the splotch, but today I was in a different mood. As an professional artist there is an expectation that artists find something to specialize in. I'm told specializing will get me more business and that it is beneficial to be recognizable. I thought I had found that in portraiture, but after committing to it something wasn't right. I have been struggling to make work I use to love. There is a fear present for me when working on a commission. There is a need to please and satisfy someone who's tastes I have learned I am unable to quantify. I search for something I can maintain over a long time that brings me peace and pleasure. I just wonder if such a thing actually exists for me. My personality is contrary to the societal meme. And the winner is... |
