Final bid 4247 credits. This card is going to Illinois. Name: Delilah -The Simply Sensational Snake Stole of Mizz Thang (January Card #7). Delilah is able to change it's color depending on the outfit of it's owner, an important feature in wearable creature art. Nothing wrong with a living stole. So far I like the preparation for the watercolor. I might be able to get away with the previous practice when I try gouache since they are opaque. For now I think I'll stick with this style. Today I can feel good about my personal choice of color use one moment and then get completely schooled and pwned by a shelf unit I try to install the next. We each have our own talents and it's times like these I wish there was a man around. Such is life.

Final bid 1010 credits. This card is the first going to Nevada, at least I think it is ;) This card is called "Hope." Hope is not the name but the actual entity. This is an embodied emotion. Hope just keeps us going when nothing else seems to work and sometimes, miracles happen. Today I was working on a commission card prior to making the day's card. I drew out the card layout in pencil, inked it in and watercolored it. When I started working on the card for today's posting I did a background color like before and didn't like it. So I switched to the pencil ink watercolor like I'd done earlier in the day. I can make the lines in ink better than in paint thanks to spending all of last month practicing :) After that I can add the paint with more purpose. Watercolors work best when planned. Ink seems a bit heavy handed for watercolor. I would really like to make one that didn't need the outlines. Perhaps tomorrow I will try that. I tried putting eyes on this creature but it kept telling me it was more of a single celled organism. Something fluid and changing in a living sort of way. We will see how it is received.
Today my mom came over to do special eggs with Ash. After Ash went to school I took some pictures with my mom for various purposes. One was of myself for use in a fairy picture. When I get it back from the artist I will post it for you to see. Final bid 784 Credits. This card is going to Washington State. His name is Mischief. He is the bump in the grass that sends the ball in the wrong direction, he's the the source of all those little annoying things in life that makes each of us say, "uh! Coulda gone all day without having to deal with that!" He's not mean like a gremlin, and he's always looking for the next irritating thing that he can do to make you wake up and pay attention. Watercolors. lol. I feel like I'm poking around in the dark for the light switch. I'm not sure yet how to approach the medium to effectively work for the creatures and size. I sketched out a small outline with pencil first today. I was able to keep things from getting too muddy, but I'm still not quite happy with it. I think what I'm doing would work better for gouache but I have to make it work for watercolors. So far I don't know what to try. I'll just keep at it tell something sticks that I like... or the month ends lol.
Mostly a normal day. The maintenance guy didn't show up as expected, which is a little bit of a bummer. I did get another box unpacked, and got my space bags in the mail. Later today I'm hoping to see how effective they will be at helping me organize my surplus blankets and such. Things are progressing nicely. I'm getting to the details that make things run smoothly. I just need to get back to work on my commissions. Hopefully I'll get one figured out tonight. Final bid 555 credits. This card is going to Massachusetts. I didn't actually get to sit down and work on the card until after most of my day had already occurred. We did some errands including, but not limited to, grocery shopping. We mostly did laundry after that. The maintenance guy came over and fixed the closet. Which is wonderful. It should work much better now. He will be back to fix a few more things.
I started this creature by just applying color to the page. In the edges of the colors I saw, what became, this creature. I started outlining it. It was originally meant to look like something looking over it's shoulder with a big frill. As the frill developed at one moment it extended to the base and I saw that it was actually a turtle. A neat development. I still have the desire to make dots...... Final bid 672 credits. This card is going to Washington state. So I wanted to do something for April Fools day, but I didn't want to do anything that took away from the auction. I asked some friends on facebook if they had any ideas and I got a number of really good ones. I didn't want to have to go get something for the fool so I decided on this. Today was supposed to be a new card style day. No more ink. So I painted the creature card on the right. Then I decided to draw an ink version of the same creature. I posted the auction as an April Fools card and then listed the ink. I put in the post that something would change tomorrow. I got sidetracked and didn't get to posting about the added actual watercolor card until about 12:40am. I couldn't do the blog that day or it might spoil the surprise. I was concerned that the hype would be bigger then the actual surprise. I'm also not sure if anyone else got why it was a fool other than me lol but I enjoyed it.
Switching mediums is a bit tricky. Ink and watercolor are completely different as well. I find myself wanting to make dots :) |
