Free Art Day 37

3.5 x 2.5 ink on watercolor paper.
I was working on one of the kickstarter custom cards yesterday and really enjoyed the way certain aspects of the ape looked in ink. I utilized some of the same aspects I enjoyed from the custom card in the face and transitions of this creature, especially around the eyes.

I started the card with strange ram horns but scrapped that part and kept the face. I was on a google hangout with my sweetie in Texas while I worked on the card. We discussed giving it a body to fill up the space or using a long neck. He said with the facial expression it lent itself more to the neck, and I agreed. I enjoy the dynamic of wonder created when a creature does not show it's entire form. What could come after the neck?

And the winner is...

Congratulations Judy L <>< you are the winner of todays drawing! I hope you will consider naming your creature card. Should you prefer not to we have had a few great suggestions that were offered on the blog.

Your like quick draw lightning Mc Carol there. Glad to hear you love it. You are officially entered to win this creature.

You never told me if you wanted your win from last to be a magnet or pendant... or if I should just bring it by :)

Now I remember what this reminds me of. In the movie 'the 7 faces of Dr. Lou' there is a snake that can change it's face (head) and in one scene he has the head of this man smoking a cigar.

Well Netflix doesn't offer it. Do you have a copy of the movie? I may be able to find it online at another location. I'm glad you figured out what it reminded you of. I know the un-comfortability of recognition without association. Thanks for sharing :)
